LAWRENCEVILLE - Local judges signed an order empaneling a special grand jury to look into the county government's land deals, a judicial official confirmed.
District Attorney Danny Porter, who requested the jury, was not available for comment Friday. After a series of controversial purchases, Porter sought the group to look into purchases for parks, libraries, road rights of way and water and sewer easements since 2005. He said the special grand jury can set its own meeting dates and path of investigation, and the panel exists as long as the matter requires, as opposed to the usual six-month grand jury term.More like this story
