LAWRENCEVILLE - Leaders are choosing to take a methodical approach to object to the new county library policy to create regional libraries and computer labs at existing branches.

While the Dacula Business Association's Chad Parson said a lawsuit would be filed within a week after the library board made the controversial decision to solve a budgetary crisis Tuesday, Parson backed off of the quick action Friday.

He said he met with a commissioner, senator and representative from the area that day and the group decided to hold off on a request for an injunction to pursue meetings with library officials.

"We still want to sort through some viable options," he said. "We don't want to close some doors that the restraining order would close."

Despite the new strategy, Parson said the community is still outraged, after the library board voted to close the Dacula branch and then chose to convert it to a computer lab instead.

"We believe that is contrary to everything the county has been working toward the last 30 years," he said. "We want to preserve the community-based library system."
