LILBURN - Students in nine classrooms at Mountain Park Elementary School were temporarily dislocated Wednesday as maintenance workers replaced carpet damaged by water that inched into the school Monday, officials said.
Flood debris blocked the school's storm drain on Monday, causing some water to come in through a side door and leak into nine classrooms, said Jorge Quintana, spokesman for Gwinnett County Public Schools. Employees of the school system's environmental services department removed the water Monday but decided the carpet should be replaced in those rooms, Quintana said. The classes held in those rooms were temporarily moved to other areas on campus, including portable classrooms, the media center and other rooms within the building. Mountain Park Elementary is located in the Parkview cluster. Road closures caused by the flood also affected some bus routes, Quintana said. Several buses had to be rerouted, and a couple were late delivering students to school Wednesday morning. Gwinnett County Public Schools closed Monday and Tuesday because of concerns of getting students to school safely.More like this story
