LAWRENCEVILLE - Authorities apprehended an escaped inmate Wednesday morning who bolted from a flood clean-up site in Lawrenceville, officials said.
A Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department fugitive unit found Perry Bernard Williams, 27, of Marietta, holed up in a closet at Highland Run Apartments in DeKalb County about 9 a.m., said Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais.
Williams surrendered without incident to DeKalb and Gwinnett authorities, Bourbonnais said.
"We received information from relatives that he could be staying there," Bourbonnais said. "I believe he had some relatives that live there."
Williams, a prison inmate at Gwinnett County Department of Corrections, escaped a work detail less than 24 hours earlier at Collins Hill Park, officials said. Williams joined inmates at the park who were clearing mud and flood debris.
Williams had been serving a two-year sentence for theft by receiving stolen property, records show. He now faces additional charges of escape, Bourbonnais said.
