Emma Marie Abel and G. Anthony McPhail Jr. were married Aug. 22 in Athens. The Rev. Bob Beckwith and the Rev. Wiley Carney officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Donya and Roger Abel of Buford. She is a 2005 graduate of North Gwinnett High School and a 2009 graduate of the University of Georgia, where she received a bachelor's degree in education in exercise and sports science.
The groom is the son of Gary Anthony McPhail Sr. and Carey Cannon McPhail of Macon. He is a 2001 graduate of Westside High School and a 2003 graduate of Young Harris College, where he received an associate degree in religious studies. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Georgia, where he received a bachelor's degree in religion. He is employed by Martha Brown Memorial United Methodist Church as the contemporary music and young adult ministries director.
Beverly Walker served as the bride's maid of honor.
Gary Anthony McPhail Sr., father of the groom, served as the best man.
After a honeymoon in St. Simon's Island, the couple resides in Macon.
