CSS to televise Grayson-Parkview

Comcast Sports Southeast will broadcast the Sept. 25 football game between Grayson and host Parkview on its regional sports networks. Grayson won a 24-22 thriller when the two teams played last season.

Eagles' Galindo, Broncos' Lopez named runners of the week

Carlos Galindo of Collins Hill and Anakaren Lopez of Brookwood were named runners of the week by the Gwinnett County cross country coaches.

Galindo won the Mobile (Ala.) Cross Country Challenge of Champions in 16 minutes, 14 seconds, helping his team to first place. Lopez was sixth in the championship race at the Carrollton Orthopaedic Invitational, also leading her team to first place.

Comcast Bleachers On Demand at Norcross on Friday

The Comcast Bleachers On Demand TV show will appear at Friday's football game between North Gwinnett and host Norcross. The show takes video interviews and footage of the most spirited fans, students and teachers to air exclusively on Comcast On Demand.

Locals fare well in GSGA tourney

Jacques Lamothe of Lilburn won his flight and Mark Tilton of Norcross was second in his division at last weekend's Georgia State Golf Association Public Links Championship in LaGrange.

Lamothe shot 71 and 78 to win the third flight ahead of Buford's Michael Goodling, who was runner-up with 78 and 85. Snellville's James Howell (97-90) was ninth in that flight.

Tilton (82-80) was runner-up in the second flight, which also featured Suwanee's David Biggs, who tied for fifth at 80-85.

Hawks 2nd in Shaw Invitational

Mill Creek's fastpitch softball team went 4-1 to place second in the Gold Division of last weekend's Shaw Invitational.

Nikki Sagerman (6-for-16), Brittany Bass (6-for-16) and Alissa Stringer (5-for-13) led the Hawks' offense, while Tori Mitchell, Taylor Wehunt, Caroline Wilson and Lauren Kaczynski had strong weekends at pitcher. Mill Creek defeated LaGrange, Starr's Mill, Etowah and Woodstock before falling 2-0 to Whitewater in the final game.

Prep Rally features Berkmar's past greats

Gwinnett Prep Rally, a Gwinnett County high school sports TV program, airs football highlights from Buford-Lovett, Grayson-Dacula, Peachtree Ridge-Northview, Parkview-Berkmar and Wesleyan-Holy Innocents' on this week's show.

Featured athletes include Grayson's Kori Gaines, Peachtree Ridge's Brad Roby and Parkview's Kalik Barnes. The Gwinnett Greats feature looks back at Berkmar's football history.

Gwinnett Prep Rally, hosted by Daily post editor Todd Cline and sports editor Will Hammock, airs Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on GCPS-TV and each Wednesday-Friday at 7:30 a.m., 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on GCPS-TV. Check for more information.

NFLPA golf tourney to be at Northwood

Team spots and sponsorship opportunities are still available for the Metro Atlanta Chapter National Football League Players Association Golf Tournament, which will be Monday at Northwood Country Club. The event raises money for the NFLPA's youth scholarship program and other charities.

Thrashers reduce roster by 16

ATLANTA - The Atlanta Thrashers assigned forwards Michael Forney, Tomas Pospisil and Matt Siddall, along with defenseman Scott Lehman to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL on Wednesday.

The Thrashers also returned forwards Jimmy Bubnick (WHL Kamloops), Levko Koper (WHL Spokane), Jeremy Morin (OHL Kitchener), Eric O'Dell (OHL Sudbury) and Danick Paquette (QMJHL Quebec), as well as defensemen Ben Chiarot (OHL Guelph) and Cody Sol (OHL Saginaw) to their respective junior teams.

The team released forwards Matt Anderson and Darryl Smith, defensemen Mike Looby and Drew Paris, and goaltender Josh Unice. Atlanta now has 46 players on its training camp roster.
