John J. “Jack” Schiveree, 79, of Buford, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday morning September 15, 2009. Mr. Schiveree, 79, was a multi-sport varsity athlete and 1947 graduate of Bloomfield (NJ) High School. Following high school, he played semi-pro football in northern New Jersey, before joining the U.S. Army. He served in Korea from 1950-1952, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. Mr. Schiveree worked for the Prudential Insurance Company for 42 years, retiring as Director of Group Marketing. While employed with Prudential in Jacksonville, he graduated from Jacksonville University where he was elected as the first president of the Evening Student Union. Mr. Schiveree was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a past member of the Pastoral Council. He was the first president of Amigos for Christ, a non-profit organization founded by members of Prince of Peace to build homes and social infrastructure for the needy in rural Nicaragua. Mr. Schiveree made numerous trips to Nicaragua to aid in the efforts of Amigos. An avid outdoorsman, Jack enjoyed fishing in its every form. He was also a great swimmer, golfer, and gardener. Preceded in death by the love of his life, Marie Mainiero Schiveree, Jack Schiveree is survived by his sister, Barbara S. Gottuso, Jacksonville, Florida, his four children, Susanne S. Gleaton, Atlanta, John E. Schiveree, Buford, Julia S. Boren, Roswell, and Jennifer S. Farmer, Atlanta, and eight loving and admiring grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince Of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, GA. Interment will follow in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA with military honors. The family will receive friend at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Amigos for Christ, 1845 South Lee Court, Suite A, Buford, GA 30518.
