Sugar Hill changes trash service provider

SUGAR HILL - The Sugar Hill City Council awarded Advanced Disposal the city's waste disposal contract, replacing Robertson Sanitation, which had provided service the last 12 years. Advanced was awarded the contract over bids from Robertson and Waste Pro. A representative of Advanced said it will pick up residential waste and recycling Monday through Friday and commercial waste and recycling on Saturday, beginning Nov. 1. Mayor Gary Pirkle favored continuing with Robertson, but its bid was not as competitive. "Had they even come in even about equally, we might have stayed with them," Pirkle said. Councilman Marc Cohen, largely at whose urging the city rebid the contract, believed that today's challenging economy requires shopping contracts aggressively. "In this economy, there's no better time to get bids," he said. "I felt there might be something better out there."
