JOHNS CREEK - As one of only four walks in Georgia, organizers for the North Metro Atlanta Walk to Cure Diabetes hope this event can make a large dent in the statewide fundraising goal of $4 million.
More than 2,000 walkers representing local corporations, families, schools and community organizations are expected to participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's walk in Johns Creek on Oct. 4. In the weeks prior to the walk, organizers are seeking individual participants, teams and sponsors help raise money for diabetes research. The Georgia chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has teamed up with Cisco Systems to host the event. "The recent statistics are staggering and reveal that health care expenditures surrounding diabetes cost our nation more than $132 billion," said Michael Veysey, with Cisco. "These are the reasons we are committed to raising money for the cutting-edge research that JDRF funds. By working together, we can make a difference."
