County budget cuts have posed problems for Republicans and Democrats alike.
A reduction in library hours left the county's Democratic Party without a location for a monthly meeting.
The August meeting was canceled, and officials haven't announced a new location for September.
In the meantime, Commissioner Mike Beaudreau, a Republican, had to find new locations for his monthly Meetings with Mike, after officials decided to close the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center on weekends.
This Saturday's 10 a.m. event will be held at the Lakeview Clubhouse conference room at 1669 Hamilton Mill Parkway in Dacula.
After last month's meeting at Tribble Mill Park, Beaudreau will be traveling around his diverse district, which stretches from Mountain Park to Hamilton Mill.
On Oct. 10, he is scheduled to meet with constituents at Harbins Park Pavilion at 2995 Luke Edwards Road in Dacula, while events on Nov. 21 and Dec. 12 will be held at the Five Forks library branch at 2780 Five Forks Trickum Road in Lawrenceville. On Jan. 9, his meeting will be held at the Mountain Park Depot at 5050 Five Forks Trickum Road in Lilburn.
Former city officials endorse Harrell
Former Snellville Mayor Brett Harrell has picked up a couple of endorsements from former city officials in his run for the state House.
Former Police Chief Jimmy Davis and former City Manager Jeff Timler support Harrell in the District 106 race.
With current Rep. Melvin Everson seeking the labor commissioner position, Harrell is expected to face off against Snellville Councilman Warren Auld in the 2010 Republican primary.
"Brett is a visionary leader that inspires others to reach new heights," said Timler, who left the job after contentious battles with the city council. "Simply put, Brett always rolled up his sleeves and delivered for Snellville, and I know he will do the same in the state House."
Davis said he and Harrell were "change agents" for the city.
"I was proud to serve with Brett," he said. "He is not afraid to fight for what is right and he delivers for his constituents."
