Archer chorus to perform at Braves game

LAWRENCEVILLE - The Archer High School chorus will perform the national anthem Friday evening at the Atlanta Braves vs. Cincinnati Reds game.

The performance - the group's first - at Turner Field will precede the

7:30 p.m. game.

The chorus is directed by Todd Ferguson.

Gwinnett teens graduate from Youth Challenge

LAWRENCEVILLE - Twenty Gwinnett teens are among 215 graduates of the Fort Gordon Youth Challenge program.

Georgia's Youth Challenge, a 22-week residential military-style program for teens ages 16 to 18 who have dropped out of school, provides teens with the opportunity to complete basic academic courses leading to a high school diploma or GED. The voluntary program also provides teens valuable life skills training, emphasizing academic, physical fitness and personal discipline.

The following students graduated Saturday in Augusta:

Anthony J. Kitchens, of Dacula; Aquanetta D. Franklin and Jamie S. Arias-Hernandez, both of Norcross; Jeremy N. Fuschetto, Brendon S, Mallard, Thomas P. McMahon III, Dominick J. Hoffman, Cassidy A. Young, Aubre N. Rumph, Amanda L. Clayton and Shanita L. Harrison, all of Lawrenceville; William E. Courtney, Jason S. Luzier and Charles A. Neice, all of Snellville; Yanderis Rosario and Ana E. Vila, both of Buford; Addison B. Wiese, of Suwanee; and Cody Smith, Christopher Garrett and John W. Sawyer, all of Grayson.

The Georgia National Guard operates two Youth Challenge Academy campuses in Georgia, with the original campus at Fort Stewart near Savannah and the second at Fort Gordon near Augusta. To date, more than 8,500 teens have graduated from the Youth Challenge Academy.

UPS employee honored for years of service

DACULA - Dacula resident Jeffrey Cruz was recently honored by UPS for completing 35 years of service with the company.

Cruz, who is a tractor-trailer driver with UPS in the Cross Plains, Tenn., area, was recognized for his loyal service contributions. Cruz began his career in 1974 as a tractor-trailer driver with the company.
