LAWRENCEVILLE - Commissioners reached an employee agreement with Glenn Stephens on Tuesday, the day he took over as county administrator.
Stephens, who served as a county attorney and then director of planning and development, will have a salary of $228,000, plus other benefits, including a biweekly automobile allowance of $350 and 80 additional hours of vacation time.
The contract runs through Aug. 31, 2014.
"I pledge to do the best I possibly can at this job," Stephens said, adding that raising his children in Gwinnett gives him a vested interest in the county.
According to an arrangement announced last month, County Administrator Jock Connell will retire at the end of the year and will work on a transition with Stephens over the next four months.
"We're very fortunate to have Glenn lead our county through the turbulent times ahead," Chairman Charles Bannister said. "I'm looking forward to a great future."
