Mary Ellen Fanning, age 88, of Dacula, Ga. died August 31, 2009, at the Park Place Nursing Home following a short period of failing health. Mrs. Fanning was born in Blackville, S. C. to the late John and Mary Lancaster. She attended school there and graduated from Blackville High. She had two brothers, Aubrey and Billy Lancaster, both now deceased. In 1946, she married Mr. Jack P. Fanning and they raised three daughters, Judy (Mrs. Wayne Miller), Linda (Mrs. Ronnie McCollum), and Betty (Mrs. Sam Alford). Mr. Fanning and Linda are also now deceased. Mrs. Fanning's primary interest in life was maintaining a loving, Christian home for her family; she also worked for many years at the C & S Bank where she eventually retired. She was a lifelong Baptist and a regular church attendee until her health prevented her attendance at services. Mary is survived by her daughters (and husbands) Judy (Wayne) Miller, and Betty (Sam) Alford and her grandchildren(and great grandchildren) Troy Atcheson, Jennifer Atcheson (Mikayla McMorris), and Heather (Justin) Sears (Emma Sears). She is additionally survived by Sandra Alford, John and Kathy Alford, Sandra & Johnny Snipes, Myrtle Quattlebaum, and by other relatives and many friends. Funeral Services for Mary Ellen Fanning will be held a 2PM, Thursday, September 3, 2009 in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. John King officiating. Burial will be at East Shadowlawn Memorial Gardens, Lawrenceville. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held from 6-9 PM, Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at the Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Road, SW, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30045. 770-962-3100.
