Trunk or Treats a supervised alternative without spooks, scares

For parents looking for safe and stress-free alternatives to Trick or Treating in neighborhoods, local Trunk or Treats are being held throughout October. The setting is family friendly and still captures the essence of Halloween without fright or gore.

Trunk or Treats is an activity in which parents decorate their vehicles with a Halloween theme, dole out treats from their trunks and watch their kids walk around collecting candy. Kids have fun and stay safe while parents enjoy peace of mind.

"If kids don't have a safe neighborhood to Trick or Treat, these supervised outings might be a better choice," said Julie Eskridge, communications specialist at Norcross First United Methodist. "Besides, it's always a lot of fun."

In addition to creating a wholesome environment, another purpose of the events is to welcome local residents by providing an environment that is family oriented. By hosting festivals with moon bounces, decorated cars and barrels of candy, churches hope to make better connections with the community.

"It is a way for us to reach out to kids. This is an opportunity to meet them and let them meet us," said Leah Cunningham, pastor at Suwanee First United Methodist.

All are welcome and families are encouraged to participate in these memorable holiday moments.

"We invite our community to be a part of this blessing. We would love for all families to come join us in safe and fun festivities," said Inman Houston, who is the pastor at Lawrenceville First Baptist.
