LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County Public Schools officials are investigating why a school bus caught on fire almost two months ago while transporting students home, a spokesman said Friday.
The school bus, which suffered some damage from the fire, has not been in service since the Sept. 4 incident, spokesman Jorge Quintana said. The bus was carrying 11 students from Jackson Elementary School home on Sept. 4 when the driver noticed smoke coming from the front of the vehicle, Quintana said. The driver pulled the bus over, evacuated the children and called for assistance. None of the children were harmed, but the bus driver suffered a minor injury, Quintana said. Quintana said the cause of the fire has not been determined, and the fire appears to be an isolated incident.More like this story
