Eagles wrestling ranked nationally

The Collins Hill wrestling team was ranked No. 21 nationally by Amateur Wrestling News in its preseason rankings.

The Eagles are the two-time defending Class AAAAA dual and traditional state champions.

Forrester places second at GNWA tourney

Buford grad Scottie Forrester took second place at the Georgia National Wrestling Alliance tournament on Saturday at Grayson High School.

The University of Cumberlands (Ky.) freshman wrestled at 149 pounds and went 4-1 with wins over wrestlers from Georgia Tech, Marian Military, FGC and Cumberland.

Oudin to battle Stephens in Norcross

Sloane Stephens, the highest-ranked American junior in the world, was announced Monday as the opponent for rising star Melanie Oudin in the Infinite Energy Atlanta Challenge, a Dec. 4 tennis event at the Racquet Club of the South.

The exhibition begins at 6:30 p.m. and also features U.S. men's players John Isner, Mardy Fish and Bob and Mike Bryan. Tickets are available at TandSEvents.com or at 800-514-3849.

Local golfers post top-10 finishes

Six Gwinnett golfers had top-10 finishes at this past weekend's UGA/AutoTrader.com Invitational, a Southeastern Junior Golf Tour event at the University of Georgia Golf Course.

Lawrenceville's Lauren Court led the way with a third-place finish in girls 15- to 19-year-old play. She shot 82 over 18 holes in the first round, then shot 37 for a nine-hole second round. Sloan Shanahan of Suwanee (88-46) was fourth in girls 12-14.

Chandler Machemehl of Duluth was the top local boys finisher, tying for fifth in the 15-18 division (78-37). Norcross' Ryan Trocchio (82-35) was just behind, tying for ninth. In the 14-15 division, Suwanee's Garrett Marschke (82-39) was ninth and Dacula's Emerson Newsome (82-41) tied for 10th.

Broncos' Hewitt, Eagles' Winslow get running honors

Brookwood's Carter Hewitt and Collins Hill's Vicky Winslow were named runners of the week by Gwinnett County's cross country coaches.

Hewitt was 11th in the Coach Wood Invitational with a time of 16 minutes, 48 seconds, helping the Broncos to the team title. Winslow also was 11th at the Coach Wood meet with a time of 19:45.

Lions win Wesleyan Invitational

Peachtree Ridge's boys cross country team won the Wesleyan Invitational's varsity race behind individual champion Matt Weichert. Teammates Matt Cornwall, Josh Brickell and Ben Jacques also finished in the top 10 individually.
