Marianne “Mitzi” Tracy Godfrey, age 80, of Suwanee, Georgia, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2009. She was born in Augusta, Georgia, on August 10, 1929, to Resley and Frances Moore Tracy. Mitzi graduated from Short Ridge High School, Indianapolis, IN in 1947, and attended Abilene Christian University, Abilene, TX. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Herbert Godfrey, Suwanee. She is also survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Marcy Godfrey, Johns Creek, and Rick and Chris Godfrey, Dacula; daughter Judy Godfrey Smith, Hoschton; seven grandchildren, Kayli Smith Vinson, Scott Godfrey, Jami Smith, Jessica Godfrey Rawlings, Ricky Godfrey, Meredith Godfrey and Mitzi Smith Briggs; three great grandchildren, Madison, Ryleigh, and Robbie; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Forest Riddell, Redlands, CA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mitzi was involved in many church, charity and community activities throughout her life. In 1972 she began selling real estate and became the first female realtor hired by Weichert Realtors of New Jersey. She received countless awards and recognition during her 37 years as a realtor in New Jersey, Florida and Georgia. She was most recently an agent with Virtual Properties Realty in Duluth, and was a dedicated member of the Buford Church of Christ. A 48-year breast cancer survivor, Mitzi fought the disease again 12 years ago and once more won the battle. For many years she has been an active member of the American Cancer Society and a tireless fundraiser for the organization's Gwinnett Auxiliary. Mitzi's positive attitude and tremendous courage were an example for many facing life's hardships. Her loving devotion, abiding loyalty and exuberance for life will be sorely missed by her loving family and countless friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, at 11:00 AM at the Buford Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA. The family will receive friends at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford on Tuesday, October 20, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
