First U.S. Ebola case confirmed September 30, 2014

Lula Helen Murray Johnson, age 93, died Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Peachtree Christian Hospice, in Duluth, Georgia. Lula was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia on January 25, 1916. She will be remembered by many as a loving and patient wife and mother who followed the teachings of her savior, Jesus Christ. Lula was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Steve Johnson, who also died on October 18 in 2001; by her father, Edward Dawson Murray, and mother, Mary Lenora Murray, as well as her six sisters: Susie Sweat, Ethel Capps, Virgie McCord, Altie King, Mary Cato, and Gladys Trice. She is survived by her son, Edward, and his wife, Rhonda, of Duluth, Georgia, several loving nieces and nephews, and most notably her best and dearest friend of 72 years, Ms. Sarah King of Stone Mountain, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lula, to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane NW, Duluth, GA 30096-3527. The family will receive friends at Bill Head Funeral Home, 3088 Hwy 120, Duluth, Georgia, October 21, 2009 from 9 am – 11 am with a service at 11 am officiated by Rev. Chris Strong of Christ Fellowship of Stone Mountain. Internment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
