Prep Roundup: Providence advances to Columbus

LILBURN - Providence took a 12-3 victory over Hebron in five innings, and won the second game 7-5 to move to the Elite 8 in Columbus for the first time since 2001.

Kylie Kleinschmidt (21-8) picked up the win in the first game after giving up three hits and striking out nine batters. She went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Cory Rodgers and Alexis Baldy each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Katie Beals was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Stars.

Kleinschmidt also got the win and struck out nine in the second game against Hebron. Offensively, Kleinschmidt went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Jessie Kowalewicz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Morgan Johnston went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, while Rodgers was 2-for-4 with two runs, and Lauren Eggert finished 2-for-2 with a run for Providence (24-8).


GAC beats Prince Avenue

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian (29-6) beat Prince Avenue 25-13, 25-9, 25-9 on Saturday in the first round of the playoffs.

Amanda Komisarow led with 14 kills, while Ali Cox had 12 kills for the Spartans. Katie Stevens had five digs while Catherine Chason contributed four aces, 10 digs and 26 assists for GAC.

The winner of the Darlington vs. Savannah Christian game will face the Spartans at home on Tuesday.

Hebron takes victory over Jefferson

DACULA - Hebron collected its first playoff win, beating Jefferson (25-16, 25-12, 25-18) in the state playoffs on Saturday.

Courtney Bishop and Elise Murray each had nine kills, while Murray also had 15 blocks. Maddy Roof had eight assists and Savannah Blalock had six assists for Hebron.

Providence tops North Oconee

BOGART - Providence defeated North Oconee 12-25, 25-23, 23-25, 28-26, 16-14 on Saturday and will play again Tuesday in Savannah.

Caroline Adams led Providence with 33 kills and 15 blocks, while Melanie Blackburn helped with 38 assists, and Kayla O'Connor had eight digs and seven aces.


Providence finishes third

JASPER - Providence finished third in the Sharp Top Invitational on Saturday.

Eric Mills came in seventh with a time of 18 minutes, 2 seconds, and James Watkins finished 10th at 18:08 for the Stars. Jonathan Duffie ran 18:36, Sam Stephens finished at 18:54, and Robby Barker had a time of 19:19 for Providence.


Stars place fifth at meet

JASPER - Providence came in fifth, and Lauren Kelly was the top finisher, taking seventh place at 21:36 at the Sharp Top Invitational on Saturday.

Allison Preg finished at 23:51, Claire Park ran 23:53, Katy Jordan totaled 24:43, and Beth Morris came in at 25:17 for Providence.
