Benefit to feature Foxworthy
Comedian to help out emergency homeless shelter

NORCROSS - Bobbi Pack is sometimes asked why her passion hasn't waned in the past five years.

"When you get the revelation of your calling and you know that," she said, "then nothing can stop you."

Pack anticipates the fruits of her five years of labor will be sweet when she finally realizes her goal of opening The House of Joy, an emergency homeless shelter for women and children, an occasion she hopes to celebrate in late December or the first of the year.

A chance encounter that Pack deems divine intervention at a local gas station will, she hopes, propel her efforts forward to that realization.

Pack was shocked one day to cross paths with comedian Jeff Foxworthy at a Lawrenceville QuikTrip.

"The only thing that I can say is that God knew my heart and knew what was needed and the point at which it was needed," Pack said. "I shared with (Foxworthy) what I was doing and he told me to get back in touch with him when we got closer to the goal."

The goal is now in reach and Foxworthy will offer his signature brand of country comedy during a benefit for The House of Joy on Oct. 29 at Greater Atlanta Christian School, which has donated its space for the event. Paul E. Galanti, a retired commander with the U.S. Navy and former prisoner of war, will be a featured speaker.

The benefit couldn't come at a better time as the emergency homeless shelter for women and children, Pack said, is much needed.

"In Gwinnett County, evictions and foreclosures are the No. 1 reason why people are homeless," she said. "They're falling on hard times. That's why I am so passionate about fulfilling the calling.

"Even before the situation got to this point," she continued, "God had a solution and I thank God, even though it's been a struggle for me, I thank God that people will see if you don't give up on God, he won't give up on you."
