The Happy Hearts Club will celebrate its first anniversary during the month of October with special programming and presentations for members.
There will also be an anniversary luncheon on Monday at Peachtree Corners Baptist Church. Special recognition will be given to dedicated volunteers and charter members. All Happy Hearts family, friends and supporters are invited to attend.
"It all started with an idea to meet a pressing need in our immediate community," said Dianne McGarey, director of the Happy Hearts Club.
Well acquainted with the demands of caring for loved ones after she lost her husband to Alzheimer's Disease, Dianne started Happy Hearts at Peachtree Corners Baptist Church to help those who are experiencing similar challenges. She and a group of trained volunteers conduct the club's work each Monday for participants in need of supervision to give their caregivers a break.
Caregiver Carole Cole writes, "Happy Hearts is not a business, but a wonderful God-ordained ministry, and that fact is evident to all the friends of Happy Hearts."
While caregivers appreciate the club's efforts, their loved ones enjoy the company of volunteers, who try to make every day special for participants.
"It has made my 90-year-old mother's life much happier," Jeanette Kleier said.
