Falcons honor Mill Creek's Orangio
The Atlanta Falcons selected Mill Creek football player Nick Orangio as its Captain in the Community this week. The award recognizes outstanding student-athletes who demonstrate leadership skills both on and off the field.
Because of Orangio's honor, Mill Creek will receive a $1,000 grant for community initiatives courtesy of the Falcons and the NFL's Youth Football Fund.
Sarisky named state's top player
Duluth grad Daniel Sarisky, a pitcher for Oglethorpe last season, has been named the Georgia Dugout Club's Division III college player of the year.
Sarisky, a 42nd-round draft pick of the Houston Astros in June, was 5-1 with a 2.98 ERA his final college season. He struck out 65 batters in 401/3 innings.
Lions' Weikert, Bulldogs' Howell get running honors
The Gwinnett County cross country coaches have named Peachtree Ridge's Matthew Weikert and North Gwinnett's Rose Howell as runners of the week.
Weikert placed 11th overall in the Bale & Trail Invitational with a time of 16 minutes, 39 seconds, while Howell was sixth overall (19:05) at the same meet. Both runners led their teams to championships.
Lions win Florida meet
Peachtree Ridge's boys cross country team won the Bale & Trail Invitational last weekend in St. Johns, Fla., for the second straight year. Matt Weickert, Matthew Cornwall, Max Friel and Josh Brickell all posted top-20 finishes.
Prep Rally features North's football history
Gwinnett Prep Rally, a Gwinnett County high school sports TV program, airs football highlights from Grayson-Brookwood, Parkview-Dacula, Norcross-Northview and North Gwinnett-Chattahoochee on this week's show.
Featured athletes include Dacula's Taylor Roberts, North Gwinnett's Raahmil Brantley and Ronald Rose from Norcross. The Gwinnett Greats feature looks back at the North Gwinnett Bulldogs football history.
Gwinnett Prep Rally, hosted by Daily Post editor Todd Cline and sports editor Will Hammock, airs Tuesdays at 7 and 10:30 p.m. on GCPS-TV and each Wednesday-Friday at 7:30 a.m., 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on GCPS-TV.

Mountain View youth wrestling hosts registration
Registration for the Mountain View Youth Wrestling Club will be held Oct. 27 from 6:30 to
8 p.m. at the high school. The club, which begins practice Nov. 3, serves as the feeder system for wrestlers into the new Mountain View High School.
