LAWRENCEVILLE - U.S. Rep. John Linder, R-Duluth, is accepting applications from high school seniors residing in the 7th Congressional District who are interested in attending a service academy.
The applicants will be considered for a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.; and the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the smallest of the five service academies, does not require a congressional nomination for admission. Each applicant competing for a nomination from Linder must meet the following requirements as of July 1 of the year of admission to a service academy: · Be at least 17 years old but younger than 23 years old. · Be a U.S. citizen residing in the 7th Congressional District of Georgia. · Be unmarried, not pregnant and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents. · Be a person of good moral character who is trustworthy, emotionally stable and motivated. All students interested in being considered for a nomination should complete an application packet and file all required information with Linder's district office by 5 p.m. Friday. After the applications are reviewed qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview in the first week of November.
