Mrs. Evelyn Louise Haygood Parks, age 83 born in Atlanta on August 15, 1926, died quietly on October 8, 2009, from recently diagnosed cancer. Evelyn was a kind hearted person, a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She touched many lives, was devoted to her family and loved by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Maurice Milton Parks in January 2005, her parents, A.D. and Laura Hazelrigs Haygood, and her sister, Carolyn Haygood Hancock. Survivors include her daughter, Sherrie Parks Cathcart and her husband, Steve, her beloved granddaughter, Laura Carolyn Hollis and her extended family. Evelyn graduated from Commercial High School in 1944 and retired as a Transportation Officer for the Office of Transportation & International Services, US Postal Service in 1989 after 27 years of service. Evelyn loved her job and often said her working years were the best of her life. She and her husband were members of Decatur First Baptist Church. A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Eternal Hills, 3700 Hwy 78, Snellville GA at 4:00 p.m. with Dr. Mike Garrett of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Snellville officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity or to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, a charity close to Evelyn's heart and one that she supported with her own gifts.
