H1N1 vaccine available in county Friday

LAWRENCEVILLE - The H1N1 vaccine will be available Friday in Gwinnett health centers, an East Metro Health District spokeswoman said.

All of the district's health centers will have limited supplies of the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine, spokeswoman Suleima Salgado said. The East Metro Health District encompasses Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale counties, and Gwinnett health centers are located in Lawrenceville, Buford and Norcross.

"Although our primary focus with this small, initial supply is healthy children age 2 to 4 years old, the H1N1 nasal spray can be used by healthy people 2 to 49 years of age and non-pregnant women," Salgado said.

People who have been immunized with a live virus in the past 30 days cannot receive the nasal spray, she said.

Those interested in the vaccine are encouraged to call their health center to see if the vaccine is available before they arrive. For more information, visit www.emhd.com.
