BUFORD - Investigators have ruled Saturday's double fatal shooting on West Rock Quarry Road a homicide-suicide.
Jimmy Watts, 53, of Tiger, and 67-year-old Margie Gibbs of Columbus were found shot at about 7 p.m. after someone called 911 to report them lying on the ground, covered in blood near Thompson Mill Road. When Gwinnett County police officers arrived, reports said, they found Watts and Gibbs lying close to one another beside a maroon Toyota Tacoma. A handgun, they said, was lying close to Gibbs. Emergency medical personnel pronounced Watts dead on the scene. Gibbs died later at Gwinnett Medical Center, reports said. A Gwinnett police spokesman said Wednesday that based on the medical examiner's report and evidence collected at the scene, investigators believe that Gibbs shot Watts several times before turning the gun on herself. It is unclear how the two knew each other or what the motive may have been. "There is no official word about any relationship that existed between the two deceased," said Officer Brian Kelly. "The Medical Examiner's Office just made their determination today. I don't know how that will affect the direction of the ongoing investigation."More like this story
