LAWRENCEVILLE - After a reprieve from the torrential rain that caused flooding throughout the county two weeks ago, Gwinnett's getting wet again.

There is a chance of thunderstorms tonight and Wednesday, said Laura Griffith, a forecaster in the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office. Thursday is expected to be dry, but there is a 30 percent chance of showers Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"It is only Monday, so things can change," Griffith said.

The showers expected tonight could drop about a quarter of an inch of rain, she said. Although the soil is still wet, it will absorb some of the rain.

"It will allow for some infiltration," Griffith said. "We're not looking for 100 percent runoff."

Flooding is not expected, but Griffith warned a lot of rain could change that.

"If there is an area that sees a significant amount of rainfall over a short period of time, there is always that risk," Griffith said.
