LILBURN - A Gwinnett County sheriff's deputy was arrested Saturday at his home after an apparent domestic incident.
Deputy Hendryx Colon, 45, is facing one count of battery-family violence and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children. According to reports, Lilburn police met with a 25-year-old woman at the Lilburn library at about 1 p.m. after receiving reports of an aggravated domestic dispute. The woman had superficial injuries, police said, and a preliminary investigation led officers to label Hendryx as the primary aggressor. A police report lists "hands/fists" as the weapon type. The assault allegedly occurred at a home the two share in the 4800 block of Indian Crest Court where children were present. Police reports indicate that the two are not married. Colon, a 13-year veteran of the sheriff's department, was off duty at the time of the incident, a sheriff's department spokesman said. He was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail and released about two hours later after posting $3,900 bond, records show. According to a sheriff's department news release, Colon has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation. A Lilburn police spokesman said the criminal investigation is also "active and ongoing."More like this story
