Forum planned
for candidates

A forum has been slated for Oct. 15, so Lawrenceville residents can hear from City Council candidates.

The event, which is hosted by the Lawrenceville Neighborhood Alliance, will be held at 7 p.m. at 18 S. Clayton St., which is the former city hall.

In a press release, members of the alliance said the candidates would respond to issues of public interest, especially the future of the city.

The candidates include Post 4 incumbent P.K. Martin IV and his challenger Rodney Camren.

For the third post, which will replace outgoing Councilman Bob Clark, the candidates are John Merill, Doug Nash and Katie Hart Smith.

Don't forget to register

By the way, people have until Monday to register to vote for the upcoming municipal elections.

To register to vote in Georgia, you must be a citizen of the United States; a legal resident of Georgia and of the county in which you plan to vote; and at least 17 years old. You may not register to vote if you are currently serving any sentence imposed by the conviction of a felony or judicially determined to be mentally incompetent.

Eligible citizens who are not currently registered to vote in the county in which they reside should register to vote or update their voter registration, a press release from Secretary of State Karen Handel said. People can verify their registration status and download an application at the Secretary of State's Web site at: www.sos.ga.gov/elections.
