DULUTH - The Gwinnett Gladiators opened training camp Thursday with 21 players and begin on-ice sessions today at the IceForum in Duluth.
Nine of the 21 players on the roster have been in Gwinnett before and seven of them played for the Gladiators last season. Forward Scott Mifsud is back after spending last season in Europe and goaltender Chad Collins is on a training camp tryout after filling in occasionally for Gwinnett in the past. In addition to Collins, two other unsigned players are in camp - defenseman Jamie Fritsch and forward John Hewko. Fritsch played four years with the University of New Hampshire amassing 39 points on 11 goals and 28 assists. Following his senior year, he signed with the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers on an amateur tryout and appeared in one game on April 12. There are eight rookies and one veteran on the roster.
