Hit-and-run crash in Norcross

NORCROSS -- The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 85 that caused a taxi to overturn Sunday evening.

The taxi, a Chevrolet Astro van, was traveling south on I-85 when it was sideswiped by a dark-colored passenger car about 6:10 p.m. near the exit for Indian Trail-Lilburn Road, police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said. The crash caused the van to roll over onto its roof.

The six people inside the van, who all live in the same home in Kennesaw, were all able to climb out from the vehicle, Schiralli said. All six -- Regis Franscy, 38; Maiy Jean, 41; Raphael Agache, 29; Mark Lafhan, 9; Jean Stephenson, 7; and Regis Heisenberg, 6 -- were evaluated for injuries by paramedics who responded to the scene.

Witnesses to the crash said the car was traveling southbound in an adjacent lane to the van when the driver lost control of the vehicle, Schiralli said. After sideswiping the van, the car continued on.

The crash caused the southbound lanes of I-85 to be shut down for about 45 minutes, Schiralli said.

Investigators want anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the driver who caused the crash to call officer D. Hammack at 770-338-7430 ext. 5677.
