Blaze damages home's garage

DORAVILLE -- A house fire damaged a garage Friday evening but the home's occupants were uninjured.

According to reports, firefighters responded to the 2100 block of Gwinn Drive at about 7:19 p.m. after a caller reported flames from the home's garage and kitchen.

Upon their arrival, crews found moderate smoke showing from the single-story wood frame house, Gwinnett fire spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.

The blaze damaged the garage, with only slight extension into the kitchen area, and sent smoke throughout the house.

The fire was quickly extinguished by first-due firefighters, Rutledge said. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the family of five displaced by the damage.

Rutledge said the the fire appears to have started in the garage.

The exact cause is undetermined.
