Prep Roundup: Norcross girls topple No. 1 SW DeKalb

NORCROSS -- Norcross' star freshmen lived up their hype Tuesday night, powering the Blue Devils to a 65-54 win over Southwest DeKalb, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA.

Diamond DeShields led the way with 33 points and 10 rebounds, while fellow freshman Kaela Davis had 11 points as the duo scored 44 of Norcross' 65 points. Davis also played strong defense on Southwest DeKalb senior and Florida commit Kayla Lewis.

Norcross (2-0) also got 11 points and 10 rebounds from Briana Jordan in the victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Shiloh 36, Centennial 35

ROSWELL -- Paden Smith's free throw in the waning seconds gave Shiloh a 36-35 win over Centennial on Monday night. The Generals also got 10 points from Tajshiana Westbrooks and eight points from Pilar Smith.

Brookwood 89, Winder-Barrow 72

JEFFERSON -- Katie Mallow scored 29 points and tied a school record with six 3-pointers as Brookwood defeated Winder-Barrow 89-72 in the Jefferson Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Broncos (1-1), who play the Central Gwinnett-Jefferson winner Saturday at 12:30, also got 19 points from Autumn Adams and 16 points from Rebecca Walker.

Mill Creek 47, Milton 40

NORCROSS -- Moneshia Simmons scored 23 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as Mill Creek defeated Milton 47-40 on Tuesday night. Bethel Ogbuehi added 10 points and seven boards for the Hawks (1-1).

Peachtree Ridge 51, Centennial 43

ROSWELL -- Peachtree Ridge finished The Cure Tournament with back-to-back wins, defeating Centennial 51-43 Tuesday with a fourth-quarter comeback.

The Lions trailed by seven points midway through the fourth quarter before rallying. They were led by Gabby Cole (21 points), Brittany Jack (13 points), Erika Waters (nine points, nine rebounds) and Melissa Turvy (seven points).

North Gwinnett 46, McIntosh 25

SUWANEE -- Ariel Johnson and Stephanie Wheeler scored 13 points each in North Gwinnett's 46-25 win over McIntosh in Tuesday's Bulldog Classic.

Central Gwinnett 48, Jefferson 38

JEFFERSON -- Caryn Ivey scored 15 points to lead Central Gwinnett to its first win of the year, a 48-38 victory over Jefferson.

Gabbie Lackey added 14 points and Bri Hampton chipped in eight for the Black Knights (1-1). Central plays Brookwood on Saturday in the Jefferson tournament.

S.E. Whitfield 64, Meadowcreek 59

DALTON -- Victoria Debose scored 13 poinsts, Freddie Banks added 12 and Angel Alexander added 11, but it wasn't enough for Meadowcreek in its 64-59 loss to S.E. Whitfield.

Labrea McKay scored seven for the Mustangs in the loss.

Franklin County 63, GAC 62

JEFFERSON -- Greater Atlanta Christian lost 63-62 to Franklin County in Tuesday's Jefferson Holiday Tournament.

Wesleyan 75, Cherokee 62

CUMMING -- Erin Hall scored 24 points had seven assists, and five steals to lead Wesleyan to a 75-62 win over Cherokee and send the Wolves to Saturday's championship game in South Forsyth's Turkey Shootout.

Holli Wilkins added 18 points and 16 rebounds and Kennington Groff had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolves.

Lakeview 40, Providence 28

GAINESVILLE -- Despite 10 points from Erika Gotfredson, Providence Christian lost 40-28 at Lakeview on Tuesday night.

Dacula 44, Aquines 23

DANIELSVILLE -- Dacula got 16 points and five rebounds from Breanna Overby to lead the Falcons to a 44-23 win over Aquines on Tuesday at Madison County High School. Kayla Holmes added eight points for the Falcons (2-1).

Dawson Co. 65, Hebron 55

DACULA -- Jalisa Tucker's 31 points and 10 rebounds were not enough for Hebron to overcome Dawson County in a 65-55 loss.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Collins Hill 72, Brookwood 51

JEFFERSON -- Collins Hill defeated Brookwood 72-51 Tuesday night in the Jefferson Thanksgiving Tournament behind 18 points and five rebounds from Saah Nimley.

Herdie Lawrence (10 points, six rebounds), Jeff Glover (10 points, eight rebounds) and Tim Walker (nine points, eight rebounds) also played well for the Eagles, who will play the Central Gwinnett-Eastside winner in the tourney finals.

Thomas Higginbotham led Brookwood with 15 points.

North Gwinnett 71, McIntosh 58

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett head coach Len Garner picked up his 100th victory at the school Tuesday night with a 71-58 win over McIntosh in the Bulldog Classic.

North finished the tourney with a 2-1 record, the only loss a one-point setback to Tucker.

The Bulldogs' Matt Walker (16 points, 17 rebounds) had his second double-double of the season. He was joined by three other double-figure scorers: Conner Day (17 points), Clayton Williams (11 points) and Alex Tiller (11 points).

Mill Creek 74, Polk Co. 36

DALTON -- A second-half rally led Mill Creek to a 74-36 win over Polk County (Tenn.) on Wednesday in the Southeast Whitfield Thanksgiving tournament.

The game was tied at 28 at a halftime and the Hawks (1-0) outscored Polk County, 46-8 in the second half.

Brandon Hayman and John Adler each scored 12 points and Ronald Wamer had 10.

Central Gwinnett 64, Eastside 37

JEFFERSON -- Ayo Madamidola led Central with 15 points as the Black Knights advanced to the championship of the Jefferson Tip-Off tournament.

Central will play Collins Hill at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Madison County 50, Dacula 43

DANIELSVILLE -- Terrance Hutchins scored 17 points Tuesday night, but Dacula fell 50-43 to Madison County.

Providence 80, Lakeview 64

GAINESVILLE -- Peter Hage scored 33 points to lift Providence Christian to an 80-64 win over Lakeview on Tuesday night. Dustin Henry added 10 points for the Stars.

Dawson County 59, Hebron 48

DACULA -- Despite 15 points and 10 rebounds from Shawn Gibbs, Hebron Christian lost 59-48 to Dawson County in Tuesday's championship game of the Turkey Classic.

Hebron (2-1) also got 11 points each from Nick Bates and Trey Saxton.
