NORCROSS -- Police don't expect to press charges in a Saturday night accident that killed a woman trying to cross seven lanes of Peachtree Parkway, authorities said.
Police identified the victim as Emilia Ortiz, 53. She died at the scene shortly after 6:30 p.m.
Ortiz was struck by a dark blue, 1996 Mercedes Benz heading north on the busy thoroughfare near Holcomb Bridge Road in Norcross.
She was not using a crosswalk at the time of impact, said Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter. The collision happened in a dark portion of the highway, he said.
The driver, who wasn't injured, will not be charged, police said.
Neither speed nor drugs or alcohol appear to have contributed, Ritter said.
