LAWRENCEVILLE -- An early morning blaze destroyed a home in the 1700 block of Ridgeway Drive Sunday.
According to reports, firefighters were dispatched at about 3:38 a.m. after a neighbor called to report smoke and flames coming from the house.
The two-story home was "well-involved" when crews arrived, said Gwinnett fire spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge, forcing them to operate in a defensive mode.
They also encountered a live power line and had to deal with a collapsed roof and walls, Rutledge said.
"The power company was requested to secure the downed electrical line," Rutledge said. "The line became separated and fell from the house as a result of the fire. The structure is a total loss."
According to neighbors, the house was recently vacated. No one was inside the home when the fire occurred, Rutledge said, and no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is undetermined under investigation.
