Bathroom wall message prompts Athens school lockdown

ATHENS -- A lockdown has been lifted at an Athens middle school where a possible bomb threat was found written on a bathroom wall.

Clarke County School District police chief Frank Platt said Clarke Middle School was put on lockdown for about an hour Wednesday morning.

Athens-Clarke police and firefighters searched the building and investigated the threat.

Platt said the lockdown allowed police and firefighters to check the building.

School district spokeswoman Anisa Sullivan Jimenez said it was a "soft" lockdown, meaning classes continued as normal while law enforcement authorities patrolled the perimeter of the building.
