SUGAR HILL -- The city of Sugar Hill is getting in the holiday spirit.
Monday, the city, partnered with the North Gwinnett Co-Op, began collecting canned goods, non-perishable food items and new, unwrapped toys to distribute to the less fortunate this holiday season.
Collection bins are located in the lobby of City Hall and at the Sugar Hill Community Center at 1166 Church St. Organizers said donations will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Dec. 18.
Toys are needed for boys and girls of all ages, along with winter coats and warm clothing.
Food items will be delivered at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and toys will be delivered at Christmas.
The Co-Op is a nonprofit organization that provides food, clothing, medication and utility assistance to seniors and low-income families living in Buford, Sugar Hill and Suwanee.
In 2008, according to the organization, it served more than 14,000 people.
