DULUTH -- Gwinnett police will not bring charges against a motorist who struck and killed a pedestrian in front of the Gwinnett County Civic Center, police said Monday.
The collision happened about 8:20 p.m. Friday on Sugarloaf Parkway near Meadow Church Road in Duluth. The victim, James Eaton III, 48, was struck by a 2008 Ford Edge and died at the scene, police said.
Eaton was attempting to cross four lanes of heavy traffic utilizing a crosswalk, though the pedestrian light was red, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli.
The driver of the Ford, who was not injured, had a green light, Schiralli said.
"There are no criminal charges against the driver," Schiralli said. "It does not appear that alcohol or speed contributed to this collision."
The investigation is ongoing, Schiralli said.
