Alvin Edwin Bradley, Jr.

Alvin Edwin Bradley, Jr., age 91, of Dawsonville, Georgia, formerly of Winder departed this life on May 28, 2009 to be with his Lord and Savior. Mr. Bradley was a devout Christian and served his Church, Gospel Light Baptist, in Bethlehem, faithfully as a Elder and loved to pass out tracks that said “How to get to Heaven from Bethlehem, Georgia.” He also served his Country in Word War II, along with his five brothers and his wife's two brothers. All returned safely. His Duty was to over-see the maintenance of eight P-47s. He was given a bronze star for “meritorious service” since none of those planes had any mechanical failures. His unit received two presidential citations. He was a member of the WWII Atlanta Round Table and drove to the monthly meetings in Decatur for Winder until mid last year. He was also presented a Commander's Coin on November 29, 2007 at age 90, at a weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Winder. He was born June 10, 1917 in Barrow County and graduated from Winder High School at age 15. He returned to Barrow County after retiring from the Post Office in 1972 and working another eight years for Ebasco, an engineering firm in Norcross. Mr. Bradley is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Cleo Griswell Bradley, Mother and Father, Alvin E., Sr. and Maggie Wages Bradley, Brothers, Herman, Cloyd, Robert and Jesse, one Sister, Beatrice B. Higginbotham. He is survived by his Children, Joan and Edwin Jackson of Cleveland, Jim and Kim Bradley of Dawsonville, Bob and Becky Bradley of Franklin, NC, Five Grandchildren and Three Great Grandchildren, Sisters, Sara Letchas of Alpharetta, Dorothy and Bob Melo of Tucker, Doris and Tony Nicolo of Ovieda, FL, Brothers, Ansel and Betty Bradley of Crossville, TN, Lyman and Clivia Bradley of Murphy, NC & Newberry, FL. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, May 30, 2009 from the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. David Stroup and Rev. Charles Blackstock officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The Family will receive friends Friday, May 29, 2009 from 3-8 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to The Building Fund of Gospel Light Baptist Church, 1250 Tom Miller Road, Bethlehem, Georgia 30620. Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
