"Idol' winner Allen is ready for tour, album
NEW YORK - A year ago, Kris Allen was planning on finishing college and getting a ""regular job.'
The 23-year-old singer from Conway, Ark., said he was looking forward to getting married (he tied the knot last September) and knew he needed a career plan.
Now the season eight winner of the Fox singing competition (he won the title last week over Adam Lambert) is looking forward to the ""American Idol' summer tour, which kicks off July 5 in Portland, Ore.
Allen is also looking forward to recording an album that's like the music he performed on ""Idol' - but kicked up a notch.
George Strait named artist of decade
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - George Strait will be saluted as the Academy of Country Music's artist of the decade in an all-star concert that airs Wednesday night on CBS.
The show was taped last month in Las Vegas and features performances by Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Brooks & Dunn, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Jamie Foxx, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride and more.
Garth Brooks, named artist of the decade for the 1990s, presented Strait his award.
Elizabeth Taylor leaves hospital, feels "great'
LOS ANGELES - Elizabeth Taylor said she's home from the hospital and ""feeling great.'
The 77-year-old actress sent a tweet to her fans on the Twitter micro-blogging site Tuesday, announcing she was home after a hospital stay. She thanked them ""for all the love and support.'
Publicist Dick Guttman said Taylor was admitted Friday to an undisclosed hospital ""for a routine visit.'
Taylor, an avid Twitter user, had sent a tweet Friday asking a friend to get her puppy past hospital security.
