Gwinnett Daily Post
Right-hander Tommy Hanson earned his second win of the season Saturday as the Gwinnett Braves defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4-1 in a rain-shortened game at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Hanson (2-3, 1.70 ERA) pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out seven. He leads the International League with 64 strikeouts this season. Kris Medlen (5-0, 1.19 ERA), who is scheduled to start for the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, pitched 1/3 of the eighth inning and allowed the only run of the game before it was called due to rain. Brooks Conrad got things started in the second inning with a solo homer to right. Gwinnett (18-19) extended the lead in the third as Brandon Jones roped an RBI double to left, scoring Gregor Blanco. Barbaro Canizares followed with a single to center, scoring Diory Hernandez and Jones and giving the G-Braves a 4-0 lead. Rich Thompson collected the only RBI for Lehigh Valley (14-21), driving in Pablo Ozuna on a groundout to the first baseman. Gwinnett faces the IronPigs today at 1:35 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park. G-Braves right-hander Tony Armas (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his first start in a Gwinnett uniform against RHP Carlos Carrasco (0-4, 6.62 ERA).More like this story
