LAWRENCEVILLE - County commissioners have designated May as Foster Care Awareness Month in Gwinnett.
Commissioners presented the resolution May 5 to the Foster Children's Foundation, a Gwinnett-based organization that provides services and resources to children in foster care. "Foster Care Awareness month is an opportunity for the community to come together, recognize the needs and take action to improve the quality of life for youth in foster care," Suzanne Geske, FCF's founder and executive director said. "For the past few years, commissioners have recognized the importance of raising public awareness of the needs of children in our community and declared May Foster Care Awareness Month in Gwinnett." For more information on the Foster Children's Foundation, call 770-623-6135 or visit www.fosterchildrensfoundation.org. "(Foster Care Awareness Month) is just an opportunity for the community to become aware," Geske said, "because you can't help improve a situation till you know it exists."More like this story
