The 16U Georgia Elite girls basketball club won its seventh consecutive AAU state tournament last weekend with a perfect 5-0 record.
The Elite beat three very strong teams and had to battle back in the semifinals. The team was down by seven with three minutes to play and ended up winning by five. The tournament win improved the Elite's season record to 23-0. The team will be the No. 9 seed for the AAU National Tournament to be held at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in July. Team members are Alex Abraham, Katie Carroll, Andraya Carter, Lauren Coleman, Baleigh Coley, Erika Ford, Abby Slocumb, Maggie Smith, KaVonne Towns, Annie Wheeler and Stephanie Wheeler. They are coached by Tim Ellis, Lynn Carroll, Keith Slocumb and Ansley Abraham. BASEBALL Black Sox win another tournament The Shiloh Black Sox 13U AAA baseball team won its third USSSA NIT tournament in a row. After winning the Monroe Director's Cup in April, the Black Sox were invited to the Georgia USSSA Director's Cup tournament to compete against other Director's Cup champions. The team consists of players from Grayson, Dacula, Loganville and Snellville and is 31-4 overall for the season - including an undefeated mark in the Greater Gwinnett Baseball League. Team members are Blake Berry, Daniel Chupp, Julian Dawson, Cody Helton, Jordan Howard, Matt Jones, A.J. Moore, Bryn Parten, D.J. Sieber, Tanner Strickland and Scott Witt. The team is coached by Bill Berry, Thomas Erwin and Beau Jones. Bulldogs runners-up in S.C. The U14 North Gwinnett Bulldogs playing out of George Pierce Park finished as runners-ups in the USSSA Electric City Challenge Tournament held April 26 in Anderson, S.C. The Bulldogs, based out of George Pierce Park, scored 46 runs and allowed 18 to finish with a record of 3-1. Team members are Jules Apollon, Joe Bates, Matt Baldner, Ryan Duncan, Blake Forte, Michael Grieve, Trevor Hamm, Stephen Hausser, Robert McLean, Brian Lebel, Michel Pucciarello and Riley Space. The team is coached by Tripp Bates, Dan Forte, Ricky Hamm, Harper Lebel and Steve Space. SOCCER AFU wins District 2 Cup The Atlanta Fire United Bengals U14 girls won the District 2 State Rec Cup at Wade Walker Park on May 10 The Duluth-based team went 4-0 at the tournament and will play in the State Rec Cup finals this weekend in Columbus. Team members are Sidney Woodruff, Miranda Hancock-Delima, Amanda Helton, Rebecca Rodriguez, Bianca Babichenko, Emily Birch, Katie Wirl, Alexis Hedges, Jamie Pyle, Morgan Foley, Amy Zawada, Julie Trawick, Melissa Sullivan, Nicole Van Leeuwen and Wendy Palmer. The team is coached by Don Trawick and Robert Palmer. AFU Gold claims President's Cup The Atlanta Fire United 94 Boys Gold played in the President's Cup on May 9-10 and won its division, allowing only one goal in four games. AFU will travel to Greer, S.C., to represent Georgia in the Region III President's Cup on June 12-14. Team members are Alexander Blanco-Pence, Alex Karbelay, Aric Lopez, Adam Sufcak, Brett Johnson, Daniel Adams, Daryl Sack, Derek Landry, Griffin Byrne, Hamrick McElroy, Jacob Bowes, Marcus Andren, Matt Etter, Peyton Sutton, Raul Roel, Steven Arroyave and Emmanuel Raji. The team is coached by Matt Bellamy. SOFTBALL Buford wins May Day Classic The Buford Wild 12U girls softball team won the ISA May Day Classic on May 3 at Lanier Point Complex in Gainesville. Team members are Hannah Little, Carleigh Hulsey, Shelby Threlkeld, Megan Prichard, Casey Gant, Nicole Fronzak, Sidney Sager, Jessica Thomas, Mary Simmons Mills and Noah Sudderth. The team is coached by Mike Fronzak, Keith Prichard and Dalton Ruer. Rams claim tournament title The 97 Grayson Rams softball team won the 12U The Heat is On tournament in Marietta on April 18. The Rams went 5-1 in the tournament and won the championship 7-0. Team members are Tori Aycock, Carley Batchelor, Kory Best, Vanessa Bischoff, Emily Boothe, Bailey Hanson, Remington Hasty, Caroline Sandhagen, Sydney Stevens, Stephanie Snyder, Jennifer Spangler and Taylor Wise. The team is coached by Greg Hasty, Robbie Sandhagen, T.C. Boothe and Bill Batchelor. Rams win Showdown at Heritage Park The 99 Grayson Rams softball team won the 10U Showdown at Heritage Park Tournament in McDonough on April 4. The Rams won the championship game 9-8 in the international tiebreaker. Team members are Conner Batchelor, Kaedy Borst, Chandler DesRochers, McKayla Doss, Allie Head, Hannah Kirkpatrick, Kayla Marzula, Hannah Odum, Sierra Smith, Celeste Turner, Amanda Hopkins and Lizzy Hellsten. The team is coached by Bill Batchelor, Joey Gulley, Angel Parks, Chelsea Hawkins and Julia Westbrook.
