New venue chosen for Gwinnett Reading Festival
DULUTH - The Gwinnett Reading Festival will celebrate its third year with a new venue: Duluth Town Green in downtown Duluth.
This year's festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 17.
The festival is a free event open to the public to encourage the love of reading and to promote literacy in the community. Readers, authors and educational vendors join together in a community-wide celebration of reading for all ages.
G-Braves announces concert series
LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett Braves fans can now listen to live music at the Wednesday Night Concert Series.
The free concerts will be performed from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. at the Gwinnett Stadium plaza as follows:
· May 27 - Kate Powell (vs. Indianapolis)
· June 24 - Teal Box (vs. Buffalo)
· July 22 - The Breakdown (vs. Norfolk)
· July 29 - South 70 (vs. Rochester)
· Aug. 12 - Kurt Scobie (vs. Durham)
Brad Cox performed the first concert of the series on May 6.
The band with the most tickets purchased on their behalf at www.ticketmaster.com/promo/mk48kk will be named the Gwinnett Braves Band of the Year. The winning band will perform the national anthem at the Aug. 24 game against the Charlotte Knights and will be named as the opening act for a national artist performing at Wild Bill's in Duluth.
Community invited to Memorial Day parade
DACULA - The 16th annual Dacula Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. May 25 at Hebron Baptist Church.
The annual event, founded by Marvin Atherton, recognizes veterans who have served the United States in the armed forces.
This year's grand marshal is Marvin Meyers, the president of the Georgia Vietnam Veterans Association and the Georgia Veterans Day Parade Association of Atlanta.
The parade will proceed down Dacula Road, turn right on Second Avenue and end at Dacula High School.
