BUFFALO - First baseman Barbaro Canizares drove in a season-high six runs as the Gwinnett Braves defeated the Buffalo Bisons 9-1 Wednesday.
Canizares got the scoring going for the Braves (16-18) in the first with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to center scoring Gregor Blanco from third. He added a two-run homer to left giving the Braves a 3-0 advantage in the third. And in the sixth inning, with the Braves leading 6-1, the slugger hammered a bases-loaded double to center field to push the margin to the final 9-1 score. Brandon Jones and Diory Hernandez had two hits apiece for the Braves. Wes Timmons and Brooks Conrad also drove in a run each. For Gwinnett, RHP Charlie Morton was again sharp, picking up his fourth win of the year. Morton (4-2) worked seven innings, giving up three hits and one earned run while striking out three. Vladimir Nunez worked a scoreless eighth and ninth. The Braves and Bisons play game three of the four-game series today in Buffalo at 1:05 p.m. RHP Todd Redmond (2-2, 3.86 ERA) gets the start for the Braves.
