LAWRENCEVILLE - Frances Harrell sat wearing her newly acquired crown Wednesday as State Rep. Lee Thompson read a resolution commending the 93-year-old on her latest pageant title, Ms. Georgia Nursing Home 2009.
The reigning Ms. Life Care of Lawrenceville, Harrell went on to compete with 16 other semifinalists in the statewide pageant May 2 in Stone Mountain, where a panel of six judges named the Georgia native this year's winner.
"It was one of the best things of my life," Harrell said Wednesday during the party held in her honor. "When you live as long as I have and you can get something that good, it's something wonderful. It's hard to explain it's so good."
Sherry Forester, director of activities for Life Care, teared up as she made a toast Wednesday to Harrell, who is no stranger to winning pageants. She was named Ms. Life Care of Lawrenceville 2007 just five months after she arrived at the Lawrenceville assisted living center.
"We're very excited for her," executive director Hollie Noth said. "She's just an amazing woman and has had a marvelous life."
Harrell's daughter, Dee Karr, works as a nurse at Life Care of Lawrenceville.
"We're going to have to build a new bookcase to hold all of the crowns," Karr said.
