NORCROSS - A Loganville man out for a joy ride Sunday morning wound up getting a free ride to jail, authorities said.
Sometime around midnight, according to police, Phillip Scott Jones, 26, went for a ride in a friend's car at Harbins Park in Dacula. It is unclear whether Jones was driving the vehicle, but authorities said the car was eventually wrecked and set on fire. Jones is charged with first-degree arson. "During the course of the investigation, information gathered by fire investigators then led to the arrest of Mr. Phillip Scott Jones," said Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge. At press time, Rutledge said details of the incident were "very general." It is unclear what investigators believe Jones' exact role in the incident was, though arrest warrants say he knowingly aided in the arson. Jones is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail. A Magistrate Court judge requested Jones' criminal history before setting bond.More like this story
