Buford hosts jazz and art festival today

BUFORD - For those who like their music hot and others who like it cool, one band will be offering something for everyone this weekend.

"In life or relationships, sometimes it's hot, sometimes you need to keep it cool," said North "2unes" (pronounced Tunes) Woodall. "Some meals you like hot, some meals you like cool."

Woodall plays guitar in the Atlanta-based band Hot and Kool, which will perform at the Historic Buford Art and Jazz Festival today.

The seven-piece ensemble features a bass, drums, a keyboard, a guitar, a sax and two vocalists. From jazz and funk to hip-hop, Hot and Kool will be playing a variety of music from various eras.

"It's going to be exciting, it's going to be jubilant, it's going to be energetic, it's going to be lovable," Woodall said.

In just its second year, the Buford Art and Jazz Festival has grown from 65 vendors and three bands in 2008 to 105 vendors, including many artists, and five professional bands.

"Jazz was a focus since it seemed to mix well with art," said Brent Rippy, vice president of the Buford BBA, the organization hosting the event. "Having art and jazz together is a popular choice for community events. It attracts families and music/art lovers a like."

What is it about the pairing of art and jazz that attracts people?

"It gives people something to see and hear. That's what a television is," Woodall laughed. "It's art and music."
