NORCROSS - A man shot and injured Monday night at a gas station near Norcross may have inflicted the wound himself, police said.
Police found the unidentified Hispanic man lying in the parking lot of a QuikTrip station at 5095 Oakbrook Parkway about 8:30 p.m. Investigators learned the man was inside a white passenger car when the weapon fired.
Another man with the victim at the time of the shooting reportedly ran away before police arrived, leaving the car behind.
The victim was transported to an area hospital with injuries doctors called non-life threatening, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said.
Spellman wouldn't say where the victim was situated in the vehicle when the gun fired. She wouldn't confirm the victim was affiliated with a gang, as authorities originally reported.
"There is no indication that this was a carjacking," she added.
Police wouldn't say where the victim was physically shot.
