LAWRENCEVILLE - Celebrate, remember and fight back.
On Friday night, thousands of people will gather at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds for what is sure to be a good time for a great cause. The 15th annual Gwinnett County American Cancer Society Relay for Life has been described as a "tailgate party with a purpose." Opening ceremonies kick off at 6:45 p.m. and will last throughout the night, with closing ceremonies scheduled for 6:45 a.m. Saturday. Gwinnett County boasts the largest Relay event in the world. This year, the event is expected to surpass the $20 million mark in money raised for the fight against cancer. Registration and check-in for cancer survivors and their care givers participating in the Survivor's Walk will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a survivor reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Events are scheduled as follows: · Survivor lap at 7 p.m. · Kid's Walk activities at 8:30 p.m. with the walk beginning at 9 p.m. · Mini-concert featuring Rachel Farley, a local country musician, at 9 p.m. · Luminaria Ceremony honoring those affected by cancer at 10 p.m. · Car raffle drawing at midnight · Closing ceremonies at 6:45 a.m. "Relay For Life ... is truly a celebration with a festive atmosphere amid the color and creative campsite decorations of each team," said Linda Story of the Gwinnett ACS chapter. "There is something for everyone to enjoy while making a difference in the lives of others!"
